When the world shut down in early 2020 I was still figuring out the whole breathing normally thing. Throwing a new, little-understood respiratory disease and masks into the mix was just the existential cherry on top of an asthmatic sundae.
Snow Surprises
After a brief bout of impatience, the snow finally arrived in my corner of the world this past week. With its return came the less-than-subtle reminder to slow down. Thankfully this particular snowfall was soft and steady, so I met the ground much sooner than usual and it was kind enough to cushion my landing.
The Other Shoe
A few years ago, I witnessed the dropping of about 20 boots. It was part of a performance of “Oklahoma!”, not some footwear production mishap, and I’m not sure about the number, but the point is that there were a lot of shoes, and they were dropped.
Snow Way
I’m writing this while listening to the rain outside. Which is admittedly a pleasant sound. The steady clamor of traffic takes on a softer but also clearer quality. The ambient city sounds take on an almost magic, ethereal quality.
Figurative Fog
We’ve reached the hazy, grey part of the new year. You know, the figurative fog that hits after the holiday hype has faded away and the resolution jumpstart energy has started to wane.
Wing It
The beginning of a new year, by definition, brings a lot of new. One of my favorites is a new planner. There’s just something special about putting pen to paper to plan and track your year.
Gnome Stretch
The end of the year is a time of reflection on the past and planning for the future. Of course, that means we sometimes neglect the present. For these final days of 2022, I hope that you are able to be in the moment, to be where you are, as you are.
