The beginning of a new year, by definition, brings a lot of new. One of my favorites is a new planner. There’s just something special about putting pen to paper to plan and track your year.
This year, I was slightly on top of my game and managed to order my 2023 planner so it arrived in the final days of 2022. Mid-patting myself on the back for my successful adulting moment, I opened the package to find that I’d been sent the wrong planner.
When I say “wrong” what I mean is that I had ordered a planner with 5” x 8” dimensions and what arrived was about twice that size.
My initial reaction was to make sure I’d ordered the one I meant to (I did), followed by mentally adding “return and exchange planner” to my to-do list before realizing there was a third option. I could keep the planner I’d been sent.
Was it the one I’d asked for? No, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the one I need. Yes, its dimensions are different than expected, but aside from that, it’s the same. There’s just more room to chart my course through 2023.
Could this be an elaborate explanation to justify my own laziness? Yes, yes it could, but I prefer to think of it as the right amount of flexibility and openness to unexpected possibilities.
Happy New Year, all! May 2023 be different from what you expected, but exactly what you need.
