Reroute to Rest

Last week I found myself needing a reminder that I am only one person. I can only do so much. Despite my best efforts to be productive always sometimes a break can be a thousand times more beneficial than pushing through.

Of course, taking a step back before a break is needed is even better. A break, after all, implies a fracture of some kind. It paints a picture of pushing yourself well past the point of discomfort.

It may seem silly, but the language we use matters. Especially when talking about something that is both necessary and beneficial.

So, what do we call the activity formally known as “a break”? The aforementioned “step back” won’t work. It implies a lack of progress, which isn’t accurate. A “pause” falls into the same category.

What we need is something that captures both forward motion and a change in mindset. We need a reroute to rest, which I suppose, will have to do for now.

Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward. Don’t forget to reroute as needed.
