Last Valentine’s Day I wrote about the fortuitous timing of the first buds of the year on my miniature rose plant, Mr. Thornton. This year, a new round of buds has once again shown up just in time for this heart-filled holiday.
While I stand by the fact that Mr. Thornton is a bit of a romantic, today I was thinking of all the little steps that led to the new, bitty blossoms.
Plants can certainly bloom on their own, a thriving plant requires a certain amount of care. Little things like pruning, access to sunlight, feeding, and watering all play a part. They allow for new growth and keep the roots healthy.
These steps may not be as romanticized as the resulting blooms, but they are just as beautiful. A little reminder that while candy-coated holidays are great, love in all its forms tends to be far more present in the little things.
Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward.
