Welcome to the darkest day of winter. Not literally, that was back in December for those of us in the northern hemisphere. Today is more of a darkness for the soul. A day so deep in despair that we turn to a man who claims to communicate with an immortal rodent who has a side-hustle in meteorology.

Complimentary Ennui
For the northern hemisphere, we’re smack dab in the middle of the winter blues. No matter what hemisphere you’re in, we’re approaching the two-year mark of a global pandemic. And if you don’t have emotional whiplash from the never-ending stream of instructions to “stay home,” but also “get back out there and support x, y, and z,” please share your secret sorcery with me.
Fellow Passengers
There’s nothing like a pandemic to remind you that we very much are all in this together. We may forget that from time to time, but at least once a year the world conspires to refresh our memories.
Tangle of Twinkles
In the past, I may not have stated this so proudly or boldly. However, the past 18ish months have offered many lessons, one of those being if it brings you joy and it isn’t hurting anyone, go for it.
Seasonal Reprogramming
To truly experience autumn in all its glory requires a change of pace and a seasonal reprogramming of all the senses. The sites, the tastes, the smells, the sounds, the warmth—they require and request your full attention.
Cast Shadows
It’s officially spooky season, and I’ve had the supernatural on my mind. Specifically, the spirits meant to be warded off by the traditional jack-o’-lantern.
Feathered Fury
I’m a big fan of finding a lesson in any situation. It’s a problem. That being said, please humor me while I share some lessons learned.
Simply Complicated
I include these three thoughts/sentiments/instructions for a few reasons, but mostly as a reminder to myself. In my first post, I spoke to my definition of “awkward,” and today I’d like to quickly give a few words for “kindness.”
Communal Catharsis
Applause was by no means cancelled during the pandemic. It was an integral part of showing thanks for the essential workers. It was piped into the empty stands of sports arenas. However, it was noticeably absent in the arts.
Black and White Plain
This black and white plain has no shades of grey. There’s no room for diplomacy or personal sentiment. It’s a world of strategy and ruthlessness. It’s also quite beautiful and inspiring when played by those who know what they’re doing. In case it wasn’t already clear, I did not know what I was doing.
