The Spooky and The Spirit

Happy Halloween! Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like All Hallows Eve has become even more celebrated in the past few years. It seems that the pandemic has sent us all into a deep dive into spooky season or at least into the yard decor of the season.

Yes, the heightened Halloween celebrations could just be a need for a bit more whimsy and escapism. However, I like to think it’s a more instinctual need to connect with our own history.

It makes sense. Communal loss has a way of sending us all searching for spiritual solutions. Despite its candy and capitalism coating, Halloween and all of its global iterations are about spiritual connection.

It’s wild and wonderful that so many cultures separately created these celebrations to connect with those who came before and to keep the darkness at bay. Kind of makes you think we may have more in common than we think.

Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward.
