I tend to live a few months in the future. It’s partly due to the nature of my work, but also because that is just how my brain works. I know I’m not alone in this, especially at this time of year.
The beginning of August has a lot of us in the northern hemisphere feeling like summer is almost over. That may be true for those heading back to their academic studies or those who mark the changing seasons with the arrival of all things pumpkin spice. In actuality, we’re just about at the halfway point of summer.
That means, despite what your internal narrator may be saying, you still have half of your summer left.
The stories we tell ourselves can be really convincing. At this point, a lot of us have mentally made it through about ten summers in the space of half of one. It’s equal parts impressive and exhausting.
Consider this your official reminder to make time for the actual summer that’s happening right now. It’s both better and not as bad as the ones that exist between your ears.
Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward. Enjoy your summer.
