Political Prattle

Today is National Voter Registration Day in the United States, and it seemed like as good a day as any to end my summer blog break.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to launch into a patriotic prattle about the importance and power of doing your civic duty. Voting is important, you know this, and you either care or you don’t. Still, here’s a link to check your voter registration.

I know we’ve all reached our capacity for this parade of political ridiculousness. Or at least I have. So, I’ll keep this short and free of my personal political leanings (for now).

It can be easy to develop a sense of apathy surrounding this civic duty. Especially when the campaign season leading up to it goes on for years. Indifference becomes a survival tool. So, this is your reminder that this election is about more than our next president.

While your vote for our 47th president is certainly important, there are countless other local measures, judges, and legislatures on the ballot that will directly impact you where you live. This is where your vote can effect real change. This is where showing up to vote really makes an impact.

If you’re not sure what’s on your ballot this year, you’re not alone. You can look up your local ballot here and start looking into the local names and issue that are on it. Do your research and know what and who you’re voting for.

Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward. Get ready to vote.
