The air in my corner of the world has been incredibly smokey the past few days. Just as it’s beginning to clear, a different kind of foul air is moving in.
In just a few days, the U.S. Supreme Court has cut affirmative action to the quick and weaponized freedom of speech against already vulnerable members of society. It’s infuriating at best and diabolical at worst.
Much like the smoke-filled skies, these events did not just spring up out of the blue. They are the result of years and years of action by some and inaction by others.
I don’t have any answers. Honestly, I’m not sure anyone does at this point. But I can tell you that it’s not healthy to breathe in polluted air for too long.
That applies to both the literal and the metaphorical air. No matter what kind of foul air you’re dealing with today, wear a mask (if needed), remind yourself that this is not normal, and then do the best you can at this moment.
Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward.
