I think the world would be a better place if more people traveled by train. I’m guessing that you either immediately agreed with me, or you’re currently sporting a quizzical expression.
If you’re in that second group, allow me to explain.
A train is a mobile microcosm of the human experience. Unlike other forms of mass transportation, you have a fair amount of autonomy. The seatbelt sign has no power over you here, mostly because there isn’t one. For the most part, all you have to worry about is you and your journey.
The world speeds by at varying velocities. You take short stops at some stations while others require a more extensive pause. Sometimes you get sidetracked and stalled by a passing freight train or a passenger train going the opposite direction, but for the most part you keep moving forward.
Those pauses usually come with a lesson, even if it’s just the power of patience.
People come and go as you move at a steady pace toward your final destination. Some stick around for a while, others are only on for a few stations, and a very few are with you the whole way.
Be Kind. Be Brave. Stay Awkward.
